Department of Health Receives Bear Neck Creek Test Results

Water Quality Acceptable for Swimming and Other Recreational Use

Annapolis (June 29, 2004) - The Anne Arundel County Department of Health has received the test results of water samples collected from Bear Neck Creek in Mayo following a wastewater force main break on June 26, 2004. Results show that Bear Neck Creek's water is in good condition, according to standards set by the Maryland Department of the Environment and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The Department of Health's advisory for the creek has been lifted.

The County estimates that 99,000 gallons of wastewater were released due to the mechanical pipe failure.

For more information on the Department of Health's water testing standards and current water sample results, visit the Department's Web site, www.aahealth.org, or call the Water Quality Line, 410-222-7999.
