Annapolis (October 29, 2003) - Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens presented 16 local community organizations yesterday with the County Department of Recreation and Parks' Teen Grant Awards at the Arundel Center. The Teen Activity Grant program was established to provide community organizations with the funds necessary to develop and implement activities of their own design. The money is used to provide a variety of teen activities in a drug-free environment. "These grants are based on a partnership between the community and government," Ms. Owens said. "Anne Arundel County Government and these wonderful organizations hope to provide the healthiest environment possible for our teenagers. " Through the Teen Grant Awards, the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks encourages the development of wholesome recreation activities in the County. A total of $20,000 will be awarded to the recipient groups. This is the 18th year for the Teen Grant Awards program.
