County Executive Withdraws Bill 73-03

Annapolis, MD (November 3, 2003) - This morning, Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens met with Mr. Ernie Grecco, President, Metropolitan Baltimore Council, AFL-CIO, regarding issues surrounding Bill 73-03 - Personnel - Employees Relations.

"Mr. Grecco and I had a very positive meeting this morning. We share many of the same concerns. The bill's purpose was not to inhibit collective bargaining, but rather to delineate the responsibilities and authority of the County, particularly in the light of a potential arbiters decision," Ms. Owens said. "After careful consideration, I have pulled Bill 73-03, and I look forward to working with Mr. Grecco and the unions' leadership to reach a consensus on these important issues."

"I strongly support the working men and women of this County, and I am always receptive to any reasonable efforts to collaborate on the major issues facing us. The well-being of Anne Arundel County residents and County employees are a top priority," Ms. Owens continued.
