FEMA-Trained Members Assist with Information, Programs and Services Annapolis (November 19, 2003) - Citizens affected by Hurricane Isabel can now turn to the Isabel Outreach Team for free help with information, community programs and services. The Outreach Team was created to help affected people reduce stress, learn relaxation techniques and to understand common emotional reactions to traumatic events. Anne Arundel County's Human Services Core team, that includes the Human Service Office, Community and Constituent Services and the Department of Social Services, will work closely with Outreach Team members. Isabel Outreach Team members consist of community members that have been trained by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Team members provide emotional support, resource information on disaster assistance, education on stress management and coping techniques, assistance to children to understand the situation, referrals to other programs and services and speakers for community educational meetings. The Isabel Outreach Team is available to meet with individuals and groups in the community. In addition to Anne Arundel County, team members are also working in Baltimore City, Baltimore County and Dorchester County. To contact a team member or schedule a group educational presentation, call 410-222-1068 or e-mail isabelteam1@yahoo.com. |
