Baltimore City Water Line Repairs Complete Annapolis (July 29, 2003) - In a ceremonial turning of the water valve, Anne Arundel County officials, business and community leaders joined Mayor Martin O'Malley in restoring the water flow to northeastern Anne Arundel County today. At this time, all water restrictions due to the broken water line have been lifted. Restrictions were put into effect last summer during a period of peak demand and again on May 1, 2003. "I wish to express my sincere appreciation to Mayor O'Malley and the City of Baltimore, Department of Public Works, for completing this difficult repair," said County Executive Janet S. Owens. "I commend both the Mayor's staff and our own Department of Public Works for coordinating both the available water supply and this repair in the least disruptive way to Anne Arundel County public water customers. The cooperation from our residents and businesses has been outstanding. While we may now return to unrestricted water usage, I still caution all our residents and businesses that water is a finite resource and conservation is always best." The Anne Arundel County, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Utilities, was able to reconfigure existing supply from other areas of the County in order to meet public needs in Zip Code areas 21122, 21126, and 21060 after the line broke in April 2002. Restrictions became necessary for these three Zip Codes in order to ensure an adequate public water supply for public safety and households needs. Residents and businesses were limited in their use of outdoor water during certain times of the evenings and weekends during the restriction. Customers in Zip Code Areas 21122, 21126 and 21060 may resume normal water usage effective today. |
