Glen Burnie Mall Revitalization Underway

Annapolis, MD (August 21, 2003) - At a joint press conference today, Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens and Walter Petrie, Chairman of Petrie Ventures, announced a significant step toward redeveloping the Glen Burnie Mall with the addition of a new Target store joining Dick's Sporting Goods, Toys R Us and Best Buy as anchors to the Mall.

"This is just another example of the strength and economic appeal that can be found in Anne Arundel County under Janet Owens' leadership," Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. said.

Walt Petrie, whose company bought the Glen Burnie Mall from Simon Property Group of Indiana in August 2002, is working on plans to upgrade the mall, beginning with two new restaurants, Bennigans and the popular Chick-Fil-A, scheduled to open this winter. Demolition will begin this month on a portion of the Mall to prepare for construction on the new Target store. As part of the mall's transformation, Jeepers will be vacating the center. The Jeepers' site along with the former Ward's store, will be torn down to make way for the new one-level Target.

County Executive Janet S. Owens and local government officials have been working to revitalize the commercial corridor in Northern Anne Arundel County. "Glen Burnie Mall has been given a priority designation by the County and the staff has been extremely helpful in processing our plans," Mr. Petrie said.

"Target is another wonderful addition to the Glen Burnie Mall. I know that residents of North County will welcome these new and exciting retail and entertainment choices to their community," Ms. Owens said. "Petrie Ventures has made a major investment in the revitalization of the area."
