Anne Arundel County Issues Stop Work Order at Compass Pointe Golf Course

Image: Horizontal Rule

Annapolis (August 12, 2003) - Anne Arundel County issued a stop work order at the Compass Pointe Golf Course in Pasadena today at noon. The order requires MEDco, the developer, to stabilize the entire site with seed and mulch. When that is accomplished, the developer will be allowed to proceed with construction in smaller areas where the likelihood of erosion is minimized and contained in sediment control devices.

The developer will also be required to submit outfall information along the east boundary of the golf course. This information will demonstrate that all stormwater leaving the site gets to an acceptable outfall.

"Even though the project is proceeding according to approved engineered plans and permits, it has become abundantly clear that the sediment and stormwater management controls are overwhelmed by the extraordinary weather conditions we have experienced this summer, and in some cases, deficient in handling stormwater from the site," Anne Arundel County Land Use and Environment Officer Robert Walker said. "Despite continuing efforts on the part of the developer to control the storm water, it is our responsibility to stop all work at the site and have the contractor immediately stabilize all cleared land. These measures must be taken in order to protect sensitive and critical areas in Pasadena and the Chesapeake Bay," Mr. Walker continued.

The County will continue to monitor the site daily and require full compliance with the order before work can continue.
