Q: What Building Codes are currently being used?
A: Currently, Anne Arundel County is using the 2003 ICC Building, Mechanical, Plumbing and Energy Conservation Codes. The 2002 National Electric Code, and the 2000 National Fire Protection and Life Safety Code are also used.

Q: Do construction plans have to be signed and sealed?
A: All plans, specifications and layouts shall be prepared, signed and sealed by an architect or engineer registered in the State of Maryland. The Code Official may waive this requirement for detached one and two family dwellings and for work of a minor nature (no structural changes.)

Q: Am I required to have a fire alarm?
A: It depends on the size and use of the building. Example: In all mercantile buildings exceeding 30,000 square feet, it is required.

A: It depends on the size and use of the building. Example: In all mercantile buildings exceeding 12,000 square feet, it is required.
