Firefighter Cadet Training Program (Vo-Tech Program)

The Firefighter Cadet Training Program is a joint venture between the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighters Association and the Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Center of Applied Technology. The program was developed to provide high school Vo-Tech students training in the art of firefighting and emergency medical technology. The successful student will possess the knowledge and skills necessary for a position in the volunteer fire service. The training also provides an excellent foundation for employment opportunities in the career fire service.

The Firefighter Cadet Training Program is a State approved Career Completer. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded one (1) Basic Technology credit and (4) elective credits.

The program encompasses one full academic year of half-day classes and some weekends for hands on training and testing. After successful completion of this program, cadets will be eligible for State and National Certification as a Firefighter II and EMT-B. 

All training is conducted at the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Training Academy. Bus transportation from certain schools to the Training Academy is provided by the Anne Arundel County Public Schools. NOTE: A requirement of the Firefighter Cadet Training Program is that students obtain membership in a volunteer fire company in Anne Arundel County.
