A: We respond to dwelling, building or vehicle fires where the cause of the fire is suspicious or unknown to the Incident Commander. We also respond to any fires or explosions involving serious injury or death. Investigators respond to Post Blast Incidents and calls for Suspicious Packages.
A: Fire Investigators have the same general police powers, including arrest powers, as sworn members of the County Police Department for the express purpose of enforcing any fire safety laws in effect in this County.
A: The Fire Investigator starts with years of fire fighting experience to understand fire behavior and fire scene appreciation. The investigator then attends the resident course in Arson and Explosives Investigation at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Md. The next step is satisfactory completion of the A.A.Co. Police Academy or an equivalent course standard according to the Maryland Police Training Commission. Additional specialized training is a continual process thru various seminars and In-service training requirements from both fire and police agencies.
A: Requests for reports may be made by contacting the Office of the Fire Marshal, (410) 222-7884 or the Records section at Fire Department headquarters, (410) 222-8307. The requested information will be reviewed and the appropriate information released. The normal fee for this report is $5.00.
A: During normal business hours you can contact this office at (410) 222-7884 and report the information directly to a Code Enforcement Inspector. If the occurrence is after hours or you are unable to contact the Fire Marshal's Office, contact 911 and report the hazard to the Dispatch Center.
