ATTENTION - CANDIDATES for the offices of COUNTY EXECUTIVE or COUNTY COUNCIL:

The Public Ethics Law, §7-6-103, requires you to file a financial disclosure statement no later than the time you file your certificate of candidacy.  You must file your statement with the Board of Election Supervisors.  The Board of Elections Supervisors will forward your fully completed form with the ethics commission.  Upon receipt, the ethics commission will review the form and require the potential candidate to make any necessary corrections or additions.  Once the form has been properly filled out, the ethics commission will so notify the board of elections and the candidate.

Any person who would like help in filling out the statement may call the ethics commission for assistance.  Upon proper filing, the statement will be maintained as a public record and will be available for inspection by the public upon request.   

 

Legislative Policy

"The County Council, recognizing that our system of representative government is dependent in part on the people maintaining the highest trust in County officials and employees, finds and declares that the people have a right to be assured that the impartiality and independent judgment of County officials and employees will be maintained; and that this confidence and trust is eroded when the conduct of the County’s business is subject to improper influence or even the appearance of improper influence."

The Anne Arundel County Ethics Commission:

  • Was created by the voters of Anne Arundel County
  • Administers the Public Ethics Law
  • Provides ethics training to county employees
  • Provides advice to county employees
  • Maintains financial disclosure records
  • Maintains lobbying records
  • Investigates and holds hearings on alleged violations of the Ethics Law
