Mr. Edward Matthews has been employed with the Department of Detention Facilities for 8 years. Mr. Matthews is recognized for supporting the mission of the Classification Unit, particularly with respect to identifying and appropriately addressing inmates who have special needs. His ability to do so was exhibited recently when he identified several inmates assigned to general population housing areas whom he believed may be at risk for victimization. He skillfully observed their interactions with other inmates and engaged them in conversation, leading him to conclude that they were, in fact, vulnerable. They were subsequently assigned to protective custody. On another recent occasion, Mr. Matthews’ interactions with an elderly inmate resulted in the discovery of information concerning a medical condition that warranted the notification of administrators for consideration of seeking compassionate release. With a pleasant attitude, professional demeanor, and demonstrated commitment to ensuring that the Jennifer Road Detention Center maintains its commitment to excellence, Mr. Matthews’ performance reflects great credit upon himself, and the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities. Congratulations Mr. Matthews! |
