Tag-Along Program

“Tag-Along” means to shadow a correctional employee during a normal tour of duty.  In partnership with the Anne Arundel Community College, the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities offers the opportunity for students to see, firsthand, the day-to-day operations of a local correctional facility.  Because participating students have the opportunity to directly observe correctional employees in performance of their duties, they get the “inside perspective” of how jails really operate.  Students considering a career in corrections find the experience particularly valuable because they gain better insight into the rewards and challenges of a correctional career.  Students considering the field of law enforcement also find the Tag-Along enlightening because they have the opportunity to observe what happens with offenders after arrest.

Tag-Along Program Goals:

  • To provide an opportunity for college students to get to know correctional employees.
  • To provide students interested in a career in corrections an opportunity to examine the job.
  • To provide students majoring in the field of criminal justice the opportunity to fulfill research, project or program requirements.
  • To educate the students from the community about the responsibilities of correctional employees.
  • To provide an opportunity for correctional employees to get to know the students.
