The Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities proudly honors a true inspiration to our Correctional Entrance Level Training Program students, Corporal Justin Asher. Corporal Justin Asher brings to his role as adjunct instructor high standards of professionalism and expertise. Today we are in the presence of a great man, a great Corporal and a great instructor. Corporal Justin Asher continuously works to enhance the quality and raise the standards of the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities Correctional Entrance Level Training Program.
Corporal Justin Asher is a certified General Instructor by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. Corporal Asher has been with the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities for 8 years and is currently assigned to Shift 4 at the Jennifer Road Detention Center in Annapolis, Maryland. Corporal Asher is a member of the Department's Special Operations Response Team. Corporal Asher is a certified Special Munitions Instructor, Senior OC Instructor, certified Field Trainer and Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) Instructor. Corporal Asher has a Bachelors Degree in Military History from the University of Maryland at College Park, graduating in 1999 and served in the U.S. Marines from 1999 to 2001.
Corporal Justin Asher is a role model and has established himself as one of Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities more progressive adjunct instructors. Corporal Asher plays a vital role in keeping the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities Training Unit one of the finest in the state. His approach to teaching, mentoring and leadership is founded on his innate humanity, his basic decency and his involvement with others on a human level. Corporal Asher is living testimony to the thesis that one can do good while doing well.
Without recrimination, without reservation, without hesitation, Corporal Asher continuously supports new training initiatives through lesson plan development and the training of new adjunct instructors.
Corporal Justin Asher is a remarkable community leader. But, above all else, Corporal Asher is simply one wonderful human being. Corporal Asher's achievements in the realms of Leadership, Scholarship, Volunteerism and Character are being honored here today by presenting him with the prestigious Instructor of the Year Award.
The Instructor of the Year Award was presented to Corporal Justin Asher at the Ninth Annual MPCTC Trainer's Conference on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at the Public Safety Education and Training Center in Sykesville, Maryland.
