Anne Arundel County’s Correctional Entrance Level Training Program is provided by the Department of Detention Facilities’ Training Staff, under the auspices of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions. During the 328-hour Academy, Detention Officers and civilian staff responsible for the care, custody, control and supervision of inmates, must master a total of 221 learning objectives. The students will receive training in nine competency areas relating to administrative and personnel, inmate management, ethics and professionalism, security, custody and control, conflict management, communications, medical and mental health, legal issues and applied skills. All Mandated Employees are required to successfully complete an approved CELTP within one year of their hire date. The CELTP is located at the Ordnance Road Correctional Center, Glen Burnie, Maryland. The 41-day curriculum includes practical exercises, teaching skills essential for new correctional employees. Reading materials are provided at the standard grade level. The Correctional Entrance Level Training Program is open Monday - Friday, from 7:50 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.and closed on holidays. |
