Downstream Adequacy Assessment Protocols

Partnering with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Chesapeake Bay Field Office, the County has developed a method to evaluate the physical integrity of its streams and rivers.  County stormwater management regulations require developers to assess the physical stability of any streams within, or receiving drainage from the development site.  The County undertook this project in order to provide a repeatable, science-based methodology to evaluate stream stability.  The Stream Assessment Protocol is a rapid, quantitative, and definitive aid in protecting these vital ecosystems.
