Commercial Recycling |
| | An appreciable amount of recyclable material is still landfilled at the Millersville Facility by businesses. A waste sort revealed that a significant percent of commercial waste disposed was made up of paper products, a recyclable commodity for which markets do exist.
Continuing to landfill materials that can be recycled consumes valuable landfill capacity. While other counties have passed legislation to enforce commercial recycling programs, Anne Arundel County has pursued voluntary recycling and reporting. Each year the County solicits businesses to report the amount of material they were able to recycle. In return, the County recognizes the business by promoting their accomplishment in the local newspaper. Take advantage of this opportunity for free publicity and call us at (410) 222-7951 for further details. Technical and practical assistance is also available to businesses that would like to start a recycling program or need help expanding an existing program. A recycling specialist will visit a work site to help start a program, as well as provide commercial recycling guides, information on local recycling companies, and markets, and access to other resources. For more information on commercial recycling, log on to www.mdrecycles.org.
Services Available to Commercial Customers Commercial Customers are welcome at the Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility. Waste Management Services provides a comprehensive system of municipal solid waste collection, recycling, disposal, and related services to the citizens, businesses, and institutions of Anne Arundel County. The County does not accept any material generated outside of Anne Arundel County. Waste Management Services operates as an enterprise. All of the services are financially supported by our customers through a fee paid by residents with curbside collection, or a landfill fee paid by commercial users and users with large loads. The enterprise does not receive any revenue from County tax dollars. We can only accept trash generated in Anne Arundel County, and verify residency by checking driver's licenses. Commercially marked or registered vehicles must use the Millersville landfill and are subject to a tipping fee charged by the ton. Vehicle registration will be checked upon entrance. | | | | The Millersville Landfill and Resource Recovery Facility is the only facility equipped to accept payment, so customers who must pay are directed there. For the convenience of all of our customers, stickers can be obtained to avoid future driver's license and registration checks. However, commercial customers recycling small quantities (approximately one level pickup truck bed full) of cans, bottles, jars, and paper at the Sudley Convenience Center, Glen Burnie Convenience Center or Millersville Convenience Center will not be charged. Customers that will be charged a per ton fee based on the Fee Schedule include: - Any user delivering trash in a commercially registered vehicle or with permanent or detachable commercial logos or markings
- Anyone delivering trash with a:
- Double axle vehicle
- Rental truck or trailer
- Dump truck
- Flatbed truck
- Box truck
- Anyone wanting to dispose of a boat, camper, or mobile home
All loads are subject to inspection. For quick and safe disposal, please sort your items before arriving since you may have to unload at different sections of the facility. Load similar items in the same spot in your vehicle for ease of unloading. If you have large quantities of several types of materials, consider bringing only one material per trip. Building Material Recyclers Do you have leftover or used building supplies (such as lumber, bathroom fixtures, doors, etc.) that you would rather donate than throw away? The Loading Dock, a non-profit recycler located in Baltimore, collects and redistributes used, new, and surplus building material to low-income families and other non-profit organizations. The Loading Dock accepts material from both residential and commercial donors. Contributions are tax deductible. For more information call the Loading Dock at (410) 728-3625 or visit their website at www.loadingdock.org . Construction Debris Although construction debris is accepted at our facilities, residents and businesses are urged to take these types of materials to private rubble landfills, some of which have the capability to recycle. Listings for rubble landfills can be found in the yellow pages or on the web. It is recommended that you call for restrictions, hours of operation, and fees.
