Rainwater Harvesting

Finding innovative and efficient uses of water is an important way to conserve this precious resource and ensure adequate supplies for the future. Rain barrels are designed to catch water from your downspouts and store it for you to use to water your garden and shrubs.

Did you know that in a typical one inch rain event 1000 square feet of roof produces around 600 gallons of water! That’s enough to keep your sunflowers smiling all summer. Also, rainwater is slightly acidic which helps plants access soil nutrients better. Another advantage of rain barreling is to help reduce the amount of stormwater discharged into the Chesapeake Bay following rain events.
