Traffic Operations

The Traffic Engineering Division is responsible for regulating traffic, parking, bicycle, and pedestrian operations on County-maintained roadways.  This includes investigating and addressing requests involving speed limits, new guardrail installation, safety investigations, turn restrictions, parking restrictions, through-truck traffic, warning and directional signing, crosswalks, handicap parking spaces, fire lane signing, sight obstructions, and anything else affecting the flow of vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles.

The time required to implement a resolution to the problem can vary anywhere from a week to several months depending upon the scope of what needs to be done, the need for further investigation or design, the need to review proposals with the community, work schedules, and the weather.

To submit a request about traffic operations on a County-maintained roadway, please call the Traffic Engineering Division at 410-222-7331 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to speak with a Traffic Engineer or Traffic Analyst.  They will gather your information and make a preliminary investigation within one week.  A recommendation about what action should be taken will usually be developed within three weeks.
