Traffic Engineering and Maintenance

Traffic Engineering and Maintenance concerns are addressed by our Traffic Engineering Division.  Services offered by this division include:

>> Neighborhood Traffic Control - Throughout Anne Arundel County, one of the most frequently raised issues is concern about the speed and volume of traffic in residential areas. The Traffic Engineering Division will work with any neighborhood group who would like to consider ways to document the scope of traffic problems and develop and implement ways to address those problems. Certain permanent traffic calming devices may require funding participation from the community.

>> Pavement Markings - Maintenance of all pavement markings (lane lines, turn lanes, cross walks, etc.) on County-maintained roadways.

>> Street Lights -Anne Arundel County contracts with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) to maintain street lights. To request service on an existing street light, please contact BGE directly at 1-800-685-0123.

 >> Traffic Operations and Concerns -The Traffic Engineering Division is responsible for regulating traffic, traffic safety, parking, bicycle, and pedestrian operations on County-maintained roadways.

>> Traffic Signals - Maintenance of all traffic signals and requests for new signals at intersections of County roads. Where County and State roads (typically those with a route number such as MD 648 or US 50/301) intersect, the State Highway Administration is usually responsible for the signal. However, Anne Arundel County is responsible for operating the traffic signals at the intersections of MD 665 ramps/Riva Road and I-97 northbound ramp/Veterans Highway.

>> Traffic Signs Manufacturing and maintenance of all traffic signs and request for new signs along County-maintained roadways.
