Mowing vegetation along County-maintained roadsides, median strips, slopes and ditches, as well as around guardrails and bridge approaches, is important to control impediments to vision and drainage. Mowing operations are scheduled on a routine basis during the mowing season, usually from May to September, or weather permitting, from April to October. Grass is mowed along County-maintained roadsides on average of 3 to 4 times per year. Approximately 900 miles of grass is mowed every year. Mowing operations are performed using tractor-driven mowers, push mowers, walk-behind units, and string trimmers, depending on the specific conditions of the area to be mowed. In order to meet the demand for this service, contract labor is sometimes used.
To request roadside mowing, please contact the appropriate road district. Road districts are open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A supervisor will investigate your concern and respond to you within one week (one day if it is an emergency) to advise you of a schedule for any needed work. |
