In order to repair potholes, road depressions, edge failures, and other roadway or shoulder surface defects on County-maintained roads, temporary patching, permanent patching, and skim patching activities are scheduled, depending upon the magnitude of the defect.
Permanent patching is used in areas where a long-lasting repair is required. Often times, the road surface must be cut away, the road base replaced, and new hot mix asphalt installed. The preferred months to carry out permanent patching activities are from April to November due to hot-mix asphalt temperature requirements and availability. Sometimes, the area may be temporarily patched using cold mix asphalt until the permanent repair can be scheduled. Skim patching with hot mix is used to correct slight depressions in roadways that may cause drainage or safety concerns. This is a permanent repair where road base work is not necessary due to the lesser magnitude of the problem. To report a pothole or road surface problem, please call the: POTHOLE HOTLINE: (410) 222-7045 or your appropriate road district. Road districts are open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A supervisor will investigate your concern and respond to you within one week (one day if it is a hazard) to advise you of a schedule for any needed work. |
