Pavement Markings

Pavement markings are used on County-maintained roadways to provide guidance and information to motorists.  In addition to stripes on the roadways, other markings include inlaid markers, roadside delineators, and flexible posts used for channelizing traffic.  All markings must be designed and installed in compliance with the Maryland Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. The Traffic Engineering Division uses both its own forces and contractors to install markings.

To submit a question or suggestion about the layout of pavement markings on County-maintained roadways or to request new pavement markings, please contact the Traffic Engineering Division at 410-222-7331 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Your request will receive an initial investigation within one week, and a decision will generally be reached within three weeks.  The actual installation of new or modified markings is dependent upon weather and work schedules.  If new or modified markings are appropriate, you will be notified of the approximate time frame for installation.

If you would like information about when a road will be repainted, or if you would like to request maintenance of existing pavement markings, please contact the Traffic Maintenance Shop at 410-222-1940 between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
