A: A call to the Road Operations Division at (410) 222-7045 will verify if your street is County-maintained.

A: Requests can be called into your appropriate road district. Use the "For More Information Link" to determine your district. Road districts are open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For after hours emergencies, please call (410) 222-6120 for all road districts.

Q: Who is responsible for the water ponding on my property?
A: That depends on where the water is coming from. If the water comes from a County-maintained road or County-owned lot, then the County will investigate and determine responsibility. Requests can be called into your appropriate road district. Use the "For More Information Link" to determine your district. Road districts are open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For after hours emergencies, please call (410) 222-6120 for all road districts. If the water is coming from your neighbor's private lot, it would be a civil matter between the two of you.

Q: Who cleans ditches and storm drains?
A: The Bureau of Highways not only cleans but repairs County-maintained ditches and storm drains. Requests can be called into your appropriate road district. Use the "For More Information Link" to determine your district. Q: Who will pick up debris and litter along roadways?
A: The Bureau of Highways picks up litter and debris in the County right-of-way along roads. Requests can be called into your appropriate road district. If the debris is on private property, it is the property owner's responsibility.

Q: Who cuts the grass along the roads?
A: The Bureau of Highways cuts the grass along all County-maintained roads and County-owned lots. Requests can be called into your appropriate road district. Q: Who cuts the tall grass on private lots?
A: The property owner is responsible for cutting grass on private lots; however, if the grass exceeds 12", the Bureau of Highways will become involved to insure the lot is cut. Q: Who trims and removes trees in Anne Arundel County?
A: The Bureau of Highways trims all trees and removes DEAD trees on County-maintained or owned property. If the tree is not dead, a permit from State Forestry is required before the tree can be removed. Requests can be called into your appropriate road district. Q: Who can I call to get my street plowed?
A: The Bureau of Highways performs snow removal operations on all County-maintained streets. Requests can be called into your appropriate road district for storms under 4". Use the "For More Information Link" to determine your district. For storms of 4" or more, please call the Road Operations Storm Center at (410) 222-4040 for service to all areas of the County.

Q: Who repairs traffic signs and signals?
A: The Bureau of Highways installs and repairs traffic control signs, street name signs, and signals along County-maintained roads. For sign and signal maintenance, please call (410) 222-1940 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For after hours emergencies, please call (410) 222-8400. To request a study for a new sign or signal, please call (410) 222-7331 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Q: When will my street be paved?
A: The Bureau of Highways rates and prioritizes roads for resurfacing. To find out where your road is on our priority list, please contact the Infrastructure Management Division at (410) 222-4349.

Q: Can I do work in the public right-of-way?
A: 1) Anytime you occupy, use, or engage in any activity in a public right-of-way, you must receive permission from Anne Arundel County by acquiring a Public Right-of-Way Permit. This includes both paved and unpaved areas; above and below ground; and obstructing or impeding traffic.

2) A permit is not required if and only if the work you perform makes no material change to the footprint of a facility or to the surface or sub-surface of a right-of-way and does not disrupt or impede traffic in the traveled portion of a right-of-way.

A: A right-of-way permit is an official document issued to an entity performing work in the County right-of-way authorizing performance of specified work at a specified location and within a specified time.
