In Anne Arundel County, it is illegal for a landlord to leave debris from an eviction in the County’s right-of-way for a period longer than 48 hours. Each month, there are approximately 125 evictions in Anne Arundel County. When an eviction is necessary, landlords may place the tenant’s property in the County road right-of-way for a period of 48 hours. They then have to remove any remaining property at their own cost. However, in some instances, landlords simply leave the tenant’s property on the County right-of-way, and it can become a hazard to either the roadway or pedestrian traffic.

. Road districts are open from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A supervisor will investigate your request within 24 hours.
Since the supervisor does not know the exact date the eviction was served, your request begins a 48-hour window in which the landlord may still dispose of the eviction debris. In the event that County crews or contractors are required to remove and dispose of the eviction debris, the actual cost of performing this service, including disposal fees and County overhead, will be charged to the landlord. Failure to pay the County will result in a lien on the property. Further failure to pay will result in the County turning over the property for tax sale.
