Emergency Repairs Require Extended Closure to Portion of Race Road

Action Needed to Complete Emergency Work to Repair Failing Slope

Annapolis, Maryland (June 18, 2014) - The Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin emergency road repair work tomorrow that will require the closure of a portion of Race Road in Hanover for an extended period of time.  The closure, from Park Circle Drive to Hanover Road, will begin at 10 a.m. and is necessary to stabilize a failing slope supporting the roadway that has been damaged by the direct stream impact of Deep Run and recent heavy storms.

Road closure signs and barriers will be placed at both ends of the closure.  Traffic will be diverted around this portion of Race Road using Hanover Road, Hi Tech Road and Coca-Cola Drive (detour map below).  Local vehicle access will be permitted.

Engineering work to design the project and obtain emergency concurrence from the Maryland Department of Environment and Department of Natural Resources has begun.  DPW officials estimate the duration of the road closure to be eight to 12 weeks.
