County Executive Laura Neuman joined eighth grade students from Meade Middle on Friday morning to help restore a stream at the mouth of Cattail Creek in Severna Park. The students spent the day planting trees and learning about stormwater's impact on watersheds from the staff of Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center.

Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works Director Chris Phipps was interviewed by WJZ-TV yesterday regarding Monday morning's sanitary sewer overflow at the Marley Sewage Pump Sation in Glen Burnie. A temporary bypass pump system failed at the facility causing a significant overflow in excess of 10,000 gallons into Marley Creek. The temporary system was put in place by a construction contractor to keep the wastewater collection system online during the ongoing capital project to provide major upgrades to the pump station for the first time since 1979.
The Department of Health has issued an Emergency Closing of Marley Creek from the headwaters to Chain O Hills Road (accross from Sunrise Lane). The closing is in effect until further notice Health Department announcement.
The September 4, 2013 Department of Public Works Public Meeting to discuss the planned construction of a one million gallon elevated water storage tank in the Heritage Harbour Water Pressure Zone has been rescheduled for September 19, 2013 at Annapolis High School beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The elevated water storage tank is being planned in accordance with the current Master Plan for Water Supply and Sewerage System and Capital Improvement Project W799600.
The meeting agenda includes background information on the purpose of the project and the criteria used to identify the four potential sites. Also as a part of the public meeting, there will be opportunity for public input on the four potential sites.
The Department of Public Works-Bureau of Engineering has made an overview map of the potential areas of consideration. This map provides only general locations of the sites under consideration and is available online at http://www.aacounty.org/DPW/MAP_EWST_Heritage.pdf.

The deadline to appeal an Anne Arundel County Watershed Protection and Restoration Fee assessment is August 15, 2013. County property owners who feel their property was incorrectly assessed the WPRF, may file an administrative appeal based on the following criteria:
· Incorrect Zoning Classification of Real Property
· Errors in Impervious Area Calculation for Non-Residential Property
· Mathematical Errors in Calculation
· Real Property is Not Subject to the Charge
· Property Owner is Exempt From the Charge
· Errors in the Identification of the Property Owner

Annapolis, MD (July 31, 2013) – Christopher J. Phipps, who has been serving as Acting Director for the Department of Public Works (DPW) since July 1, 2013, will assume the position permanently. Announcement of the appointment was made today by County Executive Laura Neuman.
