eastern-district-police-station-construction-requires-test-pitting-next-week
12/19/2013

Department of Public Works contractors will begin the required "test pitting" next week to locate underground utilities near the new Eastern District Police Station construction site. The effort will take place Monday, December 23, 2013 through January 1, 2014.

Test pitting is necessary to avoid possible conflicts with existing utility infrastructure during construction.  Contractors will be digging 3-4 foot deep pits along the West Pasadena Road near the construction site.  Water and wastewater service will not be affected.  However, it may be necessary to close one lane of traffic.  Motorists are asked to use caution in this area and pay attention to the flagmen directing traffic.

Construction for the new Police Station began in August.  Completion is anticipated in November of 2014.

10/02/2013

Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works Director Chris Phipps was interviewed by WJZ-TV yesterday regarding Monday morning's sanitary sewer overflow at the Marley Sewage Pump Sation in Glen Burnie.  A temporary bypass pump system failed at the facility causing a significant overflow in excess of 10,000 gallons into Marley Creek.  The temporary system was put in place by a construction contractor to keep the wastewater collection system online during the ongoing capital project to provide major upgrades to the pump station for the first time since 1979.

The Department of Health has issued an Emergency Closing of Marley Creek from the headwaters to Chain O Hills Road (accross from Sunrise Lane).  The closing is in effect until further notice  Health Department announcement.
