What is the Value of Water?
Water is essential for life. We depend on it every day for our hydration, brushing our teeth, washing our clothes and flushing our toilets. Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works (DPW) personnel fulfills the vital role of providing water to the community. We serve 128,993 customers and deliver 14 billion gallons of water through our Public Water System.
Whether that water was used for bathing, laundry, sanitation, or other uses, it all leaves through your internal drains and into the sewer collection system or, in some cases, to private septic systems. Every day, DPW’s Bureau of Utility Operations processes 21.5 million gallons through our 7 water reclamation facilities and maintains 1,610 miles of sewer mains. That’s the equivalent to the approximate driving distance from Maryland to Colorado!
What Is Sewer Smoke Testing?
A sewer smoke test is a process which DPW identifies defects in County sanitary sewer collection system. During this process, DPW Crews blow harmless, odorless smoke into manholes to locate pipe breaks, blockages, or improper connections. This process helps identify areas of inflow and infiltration and any defects. which are marked for future repair.
