Community Support Grants

The Office of the County Executive offers limited amount of funds available to non-profit organizations through an annual grant application process for which these nonprofit 501(c) (3) organizations may apply for Capital and Non-Capital Community Support Grants.

Capital Grants

Capital Grants provide funds to non-profit organizations to purchase equipment and related supplies, or to make capital improvements (renovation, remodeling, restoration, or new construction of buildings.)

Non-Capital Grants

Non-Capital Grants provide funds to nonprofit organizations to help build up their capacity, increase their impact, and operate more efficiently and effectively to improve and enrich the general quality of life in the community.

Preference will be given to submissions that meet the following criteria established by the Office of the County Executive:

  • Have quantifiable outcomes.
  • Provide reasonable plans for continuing activity without Anne Arundel County  financial assistance beyond the fiscal year. 
  • Represent a cooperative effort by the applicant, the community, and other private and/or public partners.
  • Display creative ways of helping people help themselves.
  • Provide activities that will help county residents access services that sustain and enhance the quality of life and are equitable, effective, accountable, and responsive to changing community needs.

Deadline

Thursday, February 5, 2009, at 12:00 noon. Capital and Non-Capital Grants have one deadline per fiscal year, from June 1 to July 31.

Who Can Apply

The Office of the County Executive requires that an organization shall operate a program for Anne Arundel County residents and be a 501(c) (3) entity as identified by the IRS.

When To Apply

From December 18, 2008 to February 5, 2009.

How To Apply

Contact the Grant Administrator at mcasasco@aacounty.org or (410) 222-1879 to request a grant application. One original grant application with all support documents and 5 (five) copies of the application only should be sent by mail or in person to the Office of the County Executive. To apply, please complete the application form and return it to the attention of  Maria Casasco, Grants Administrator, 44 Calvert St., Suite 400, Annapolis, MD 21401.

Grant Review Process Timeline

  • December 2008: Request for Proposal (RFP) is made available. Grant support is provided to non-profit, tax exempt organizations, as defined under section 501 (c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.
  • February 2009: Request for Proposal (RFP) must be completed, signed (with original signatures) and mailed/carried in to the Office of the County Executive, Grants Administrator or postmarked by 12:00 noon on the due date. Grants submitted after the deadline will not be considered for the current funding year. 
  • March 2009: Grant Selection: Grant Review Committee Team gathers to discuss, evaluate and score grant submissions.
  • May 2009 Grant funding recommendations are made by the Grant Review Committee Team and forwarded to the County Executive for review/approval.
  • May 2009: County Executive submits the final recommendations to the County Council for review/approval for funding.  
  • June 1, 2009: Grant awards announced.
  • July, 2009: Recipients receive an Award Letter clearly defining expectations in the process for grant distribution. A grant agreement is issued to awarded organizations.

Grant Writing Seminars/Resources
