      Fort Smallwood is offering extended hours for fishermen who would like to use the park during the nighttime hours.  Participants must be in the park before regular posted closing time, and all MD DNR laws apply.  Regular park fees apply for those without an Anne Arundel County vehicle permit.  An additional $5.00 event fee will be collected upon entry into the park.  Please remember: alcohol is strictly prohibited, NO parking on the grass, and the event ends promptly at midnight.

      The Naval Academy Band’s Electric Brigade will be performing at Quiet Waters Park on August 3 at 6 p.m.

       

      Electric Brigade (EB), the Navy’s premier popular music group, has been entertaining audiences around the world since 1979. EB’s repertoire includes the most current and popular music, as well as rhythm and blues, dance, Motown, classic rock, modern rock, soul, hip-hop, swing, country, and disco. Under the direction of Chief Musician Rory Cherry, this elite group has set the standard in popular-music entertainment for United States Navy Bands all over the world.

       

      Naval Academy Band concerts are free and open to the public with no tickets required.

      Having health coverage provides protection and peace of mind if you or your family gets sick or has an accident.  Health coverage also provides preventive health care and screenings to help keep you and your family healthy.  Beginning in 2014, you may be eligible for Medicaid or a free or low-cost health plan based on your income.  Beginning October 2013, Maryland residents will be able to go to the Maryland Health Connection to determine their eligibility for Medicaid or private insurance.  See the Maryland Health Connection Frequently Asked Questions.

      The Anne Arundel County Department of Health, in conjunction with the Anne Arundel County Executive’s Office, the County Department of Aging and Disabilities, and the County Department of Social Services, is presenting free public forums to update County residents and answer questions about health care reform. Representatives from HealthCare Access Maryland (HCAM) are scheduled to attend.  HCAM is the Central Region Connector responsible for helping uninsured residents in the County learn about, apply for and enroll in health insurance. The forums will provide information on insurance coverage, tax credits and subsidies; available health care services for adults and children; consumer assistance; and important dates.

Pace Humanitarian Award has been extended to September 10.  Mr. Pace, who died in 1974, was the first Human Relations Commission Chairman for Anne Arundel County. In addition to serving as Chairman of the Human Relations Commission, he was also a member of the board of directors for the Anne Arundel County chapter of the American Red Cross, the Annapolis NAACP and the Anne Arundel County Parent Teacher Association.

       

      “Dallas Pace left an important legacy in Anne Arundel County,” said County Executive Neuman. “This award, in his honor, pays tribute to citizens who give back to their communities in the same spirit as Mr. Pace, himself, dedicated his life’s work.”  

       

      To be eligible for the award, you must be a resident of Anne Arundel County the entire calendar year of 2013. The winner of the Dallas G. Pace Humanitarian Award will be announced during the 33rd annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., breakfast in January 2014.
