BRAC Information - FAQs

FAQs

Who does DISA stand for?

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) headquartered in Arlington Virginia is the largest new tenant organization relocating to Fort Meade due to the BRAC 2005 process.

When will the DISA employees move from Arlington Virginia to Fort Meade?

DISA, with its 4272 jobs, represents the largest portion of BRAC growth coming to Fort Meade.  DISA will break ground for their new 1 to 1.5 million square foot facility in May/June 2008 with construction expected to be complete in the fall of 2010.  At this time the DISA transition plan calls for the movement of “jobs” from the Arlington Virginia headquarters to Fort Meade to begin around December 2010/January 2011.  The DISA transition to Fort Meade will be completed by September 2011.

Will the Metro Green Line be coming to Odenton?

Anne Arundel County projects contained in The Maryland Consolidated Transportation Plan 2007 – 2012 have a total estimated cost of 5.1 billion dollars.  The Green Line Metro extension to Odenton is a long term 20 to 30 year project estimated to cost 3 billion dollars with the majority of the funding being provided by the federal government. Anne Arundel County will contribute land for the construction of the metro line.

When will construction begin on MD route 175?

The widening of MD 175 from MD 170 to I-295 is Anne Arundel County’s top priority transportation project and has been included in the Maryland Consolidated Transportation Plan for many years.  County Executive Leopold has formally requested our federal delegation as well as the Governor and the State of Maryland do all in their power to accelerate this project.  The required Feasibility Study is complete and the Alternate’s Public Workshop was held in March of 2007.

Alternatives under consideration include:

  • No build alternative with minor short term improvements.
  • Wide range of spot improvements throughout the corridor that address serious concerns at specific locations or segments of road way.
  • 6 lane roadway on existing center line
  • 4 lane roadway west of Reece Road (applies only to western 3-mile-long segment of roadway).
  • 5 lane roadway including a center turn lane west of Reece Road.
  • 6 lane roadway on shifted center line.

Maryland MD 175/ I 295 interchange modifications and Fort Meade access options are also included.

Absent an acceleration of the planning process of MD 175 we do not expect construction to begin until 2016 at the earliest.
