IRS Stimulus Rebate

Lookup when you will get your economic stimulus check

Beginning in May, the US Treasury will begin sending out economic stimulus payments to eligible households. To receive this rebate, taxpayers must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 in income and file a 2007 federal tax return. Eligible taxpayers will receive $300 to $600 if single or $600 to $1,200 if married filing jointly.

Retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage earners who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year to receive this rebate.

Many people who only receive Social Security benefits are not usually required to file a tax return.  But, again, they have to do so this year to get their rebate. Most can use the simple Form 1040A.  They must have at least $3,000 in income to qualify. Qualifying income includes social security benefits, certain Railroad Retirement benefits, certain veterans’ benefits and earned income such as income from wages, salaries, tips and self-employment. Please contact the Department of  Aging and Disabilities if you need assistance with filing at (410) 222-4464.

Everyone should be alert for tax rebate scams such as telephone calls or e-mails claiming to be from the IRS. The IRS will not call or e-mail taxpayers about these payments. Scam e-mails or information about scam calls should be forwarded to phishing@irs.gov.
