Annapolis, MD (May 12, 2014) -- Caregivers are invited to attend the final “The Dementia Series: Living in the Land of Oz…continued,” workshops in June. The workshops are presented by the National Family Caregiver Support Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities and are free to the public.

Topics of the workshop series are:

  • “Lions, Tigers, and Bears. Oh, My!”  In this workshop caregivers will learn about normal and not-so-normal emotions, how to effectively manage stress, understand the meaning of the “Ah Ha!” moment, and learn essential coping skills to empower them to walk through the woods bravely.
  • “If I were King of the Forest…” No one can change the fact that progressive dementias, like Alzheimer’s disease, are fatal. In this workshop, caregivers will learn the importance of an Advance Directive, how to make decisions about life sustaining treatments, the importance of palliative care, and the meaning of healthy grieving.
  •  “We want to see the Wizard.” In this workshop caregivers will learn how to mend, strengthen, and maintain their physical, emotional & spiritual selves through good nutrition, setting limits and maintaining boundaries, and nurturing spirit.

The remaining workshop is scheduled for:
