Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues Seeks New Members
Annapolis, MD (December 4, 2013)- The Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues is accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as voting members of the Commission. For Immediate Release


“This is an exciting opportunity for those who are passionate about increasing awareness and access for people with disabilities in Anne Arundel County,” says Joelle Ridgeway, Commission Chairman.


Much of the Commission’s work centers on accessibility, transportation, housing, legislation, and children’s issues. Additionally, each year, the Commission holds two events.  Each April, the Commission gives Anne Arundel County artists with various disabilities the opportunity to showcase their talents through the Artists Without Limits Art Show, an exhibit at the Arundel Center.  Disability Awareness Day (DAD) takes place during October, which is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.  DAD highlights vital services, programs and achievements regarding disability issues, and also features interactive exhibits and live entertainment.  


The Anne Arundel County Commission on Disability Issues is comprised of 21 voting members and 17 ex-officio members, all of whom are appointed by the County Executive.


Applicants may include individuals with a disability, those with family members with a disability, individuals who serve within the disability community, or have an interest in disability issue.  All applicants must live in Anne Arundel County.


Commission meetings are open to the public and are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from  1 to 3 p.m. in the Independence Room, 2664 Riva Road, Annapolis, within the Heritage Office Complex.  Individuals needing accommodations should contact Jill Bezek, ADA Coordinator, in advance of Commission meetings at 410-222-4383 or via e-mail at at least 7 days prior to the event.  TTY users, please call via Maryland Relay 7-1-1.
