“This is an exciting opportunity for those who are passionate about increasing awareness and access for people with disabilities in Anne Arundel County,” says Joelle Ridgeway, Commission Chairman.
Much of the Commission’s work centers on accessibility, transportation, housing, legislation, and children’s issues. Additionally, each year, the Commission holds two events. Each April, the Commission gives Anne Arundel County artists with various disabilities the opportunity to showcase their talents through the Artists Without Limits Art Show, an exhibit at the Arundel Center. Disability Awareness Day (DAD) takes place during October, which is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. DAD highlights vital services, programs and achievements regarding disability issues, and also features interactive exhibits and live entertainment.
Applicants may include individuals with a disability, those with family members with a disability, individuals who serve within the disability community, or have an interest in disability issue. All applicants must live in Anne Arundel County.
Commission meetings are open to the public and are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Independence Room, 2664 Riva Road, Annapolis, within the Heritage Office Complex.
