Annapolis, MD (August 30, 2013) – New protocols released by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems create two major practice changes for EMS providers. As of July 1, 2013, EMS providers must first treat medical cardiac arrest patients on the scene, rather than rushing them to the hospital. EMS providers also now have the authority to declare a patient deceased on the scene.
The Department of Aging and Disabilities will host a workshop facilitated by Anne Arundel County Fire Department Acting Captain Russell E. Davies, Jr. The workshop will help Anne Arundel County citizens understand these changes so that they can be better prepared for a medical crisis. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, located at 44 Church Road, Arnold, MD 21012.
